Some kimono kids love today to mark Fashion Revolution week which highlights ethical manufacturing and highlights the workers who make your clothes.
Owner of Olive loves Alfie store and webstore Ashlyn Gibson also produces her own label collection and inspired by a visit to Japan she has a wonderful selection of kids kimono’s currently in stock.
As designer and owner of the label she can also control her manufacturing and she decided to keep things local…
“We are working with a hand-picked range of workshops and factories. Perhaps the one that I am most attached to is Heba – a women’s project in East London where we make our children’s kimonos. It isn’t a conventional factory or workshop – it’s a unique training and enterprise project. The gentle atmosphere reflects the strong sense of sisterhood and mutual support. The Heba women have found a safe and welcoming place to learn skills and to engage in activities to suit their individual needs and family commitments. And we have found a project that we want to support where we can follow our production personally.”
Based in Hackney, London, you can read more about the women in the workshop on her website. The kimonos are made from block printed cotton for 0-6 years and will last for two years growth by buying large and rolling up the sleeves. Also in the pipeline and coming soon due to popular request are adult sizes of these beautiful kimonos.
