From Pitti Bimbo 86 my kids fashion impressions for fall/winter 2018 kids fashion trends before I head off to visit Dot to Dot in London tomorrow.
As kids fashion trends follow adult lines with a lag some of the styles coming through have been seen recently in the grown up lines and not just the Mini Me labels.
There is a move to graphic sports styling with logo lines alone the edges of sleeves and track suit pants, sometimes in jersey and sometimes in a more luxe interpretation, No21 and MSGM in particular are two of the strong Italian brands showing this look which is combined with a logomania attitude and company names emblazoned on front and back of garments at a size not seen since the football terrace mania of the 90’s.
Balenciaga has a lot to answer for!
These are not traditionally sports inclined labels and interestingly the usual sporty suspects seem to be moving more towards tweed, plaid and leather jackets. In general trends are sticking around a lot longer these days and for girls it seems ruffles are never going to disappear as dresses become ever more elaborate with multiple ruffle layers and again, after the important sleeve trend in cotton shirting from womenswear in the summer, some of the coolest labels at Pitti are also showing extended sleeve embellishment and emphasis for kidswear.
Black, white, taupe and red are still a strong colour trend and deep green, teal, bold blue and violet add to the winter spectrum with velvet, tulle, transparency and sequins still popular on the party front. Fake and real fur are beloved in Italy and the newest combinations can be wild and whacky mixes of colour or combined with bold lurid tweed checks as borders and cuffs, Miss Grant had some good styles in this vein.
For daytime dressing there are new varieties of the trenchcoat, tweeds and plaids in all sizes from giant to tiny, below is my selection of shots from the Pitti Bimbo catwalks, more can be seen online plus a good selection of the special catwalk and dinner for Monnalisa who celebrated 50 years as a label, at the Pitti Bimbo website.
