Pitti Bimbo 89 kids fashion for summer 2020 was a fabulous edition, here are a few sneak peeks from the huge selection there.
Based in Florence the fair maintains its position as the largest and best trade show in the kids fashion universe with again around 10,000 visitors of which just over half are buyers from Italy and overseas.
A redesign this year combined most of the smaller independent designers all together on the top floor of the main pavilion so Kids Fizz, Nest, EcoEthic, ActiveLab and Kids Evolution all have separate but joined together areas which makes it easier for buyers looking for the unique, ethical and experimental to navigate all these sections.
Today I’ll be looking at some of the stand exhibitors with catwalk pics to follow later this week.
For a while now there have not been any kids fashion trends in the wider sense but there are always a few noticeable advances and moves towards new inspirations.
Asymmetrical hems, or dip back hems were seen on most catwalk shows for party dresses which adds a fashion element to the classic party dress, a standard which Italy does extremely well.
Fringe hems and decoration have replaced beading as the most popular decoration with raffia often used, there is no let up in pom pom decoration though, it’s everywhere.
Tulle is very prominent, floaty, huge, layered and all encompassing in both rainbow shades and soft pale pastels.
Red and white stripes not black and white or navy and white are the next summer stripe classic.
Retro nostalgia is inclined to the 70’s and 80’s with fabrications in particular reflective of this era, tons of cheesecloth, seersucker, tie dye, crochet and faded washed out fabrics.
Below are some of my personal stand outs from this Pitti Bimbo preview.
