This spring summer, CAVALIER goes ‘off-kilter’ with an upcycled kids fashion collection that uses leftover fabric from previous collections. The amount of textile waste created by the fashion industry is immense. Researchers estimate that garment production alone, creates 40 to 120 billion square meters of leftover textile per year.
“We’ve been upcycling our deadstock from the get-go – cutting, embellishing and turning them into brand new pieces for future collections. It’s not something that we shout about but actually, why not? If you haven’t noticed then we’ve done our job.” quips Creative Director Angela Chong. “We’re often asked if we’re organic and sustainable and our answer is always the same – unless we can stand in the fields where the cotton for our fabric grows, we don’t like to make that eco claim. But what I can promise is that our ethos for design is to minimise our immediate visible waste as much as possible and we have been true to that from day one.”
Showing at Playtime Paris in January with the fall/winter 2019 collection, Cavalier is produced in Singapore and sizes range from 2 years to adulthood as so many customers requested adult sizes there is a selection made each season to complement the kids collection.
