Sustainable kids fashion summer 2020 by WAWA .
One of the pleasures of a visit to CIFF Youth in Copenhagen is an evening meeting with Johanna Topooco, founder and owner of kids sustainable fashion label WAWA in a true Danish Hygge fashion at the cafe Hyggestund owned by the smart brewer Mikkeller.
Johanna founded the brand in Copenhagen in 2016. Upon becoming a mother herself she discovered that there was a general need in the market for organic and sustainable clothing for children older than two, so from these ideals she started designing simple and elegant children’s wear.
Much of Johanna’s inspiration for her timeless and refined collections comes from a clean Scandinavian aesthetic and her Peruvian Indian father’s life-long philosophy of traditional worship of nature.
WAWA designs long lasting products, both in terms of style and quality with a unisex aspect so there is nothing called boyish or girlish in the collections.
Based on a core value of creating essential garments, WAWA is committed to use modern and more sustainable production processes that recognise both its impact and responsibility to the environment, employees and the end user.
WAWA means ’child’ in Aymara – a native language spoken by Indians in Bolivia and Peru. It is also part of WAWA founder Johanna’s middle name, Warawara Wawa, which means ’star child’.
The new collection for summer 2020 with a sneak peek look here is based on fruits and nuts with a nod to seaweed too. Prints are always self initiated and garments are made of GOTS certified organic cotton and printed using GOTS certified processes.
