Brilliant kids fashion from New Zealand today with the label Carbon Soldier. One of the best new brands I’ve seen come up in the last couple of years and part of a new wave of kidswear designer labels post recession.
Based in New Zealand in Auckland, it was an Indian ink and watercolour work by New Zealand artist Ellaquaint which was the inspiration behind Carbon Soldier’s spring summer 2018 collection ‘The Magpies’.
The original print appears on crisp cottons and in detailed embroideries showing the birds rich, feathery elements. As well as classic neutrals the collection features separates in mustard, red and ivory, structured linen jackets and dresses with removable collars continue the brand’s distinctive handwriting with detailed yet understated styling and contrast trims in red or black.
Signature organza pieces include a flowing cape and luscious party dress and new interpretations of the all time favourite wing embroidery which was a popular piece in past collections. Finally a crisp gingham features in playsuits, bloomer shorts and wrap tops.
