Texture wins for kids fashion winter 2019 at a busy Playtime Paris kids trade show.
A special kind of curly faux shearling was all over the place at the recent kids trade show, call it teddy bear or even its 70’s version Borg fabric.
It’s an evolution from the super shaggy furs of the last few winter seasons, although there were plenty of those still too and the very soft shorter faux versions with leopard still popular.
The warm cosy safe appeal of the thick yarn has made it ubiquitous whether in all over garments or part combined for jerkins, bomber jackets, bags, shoes and even dresses.
Also popular with an emphasis again on texture are tweeds and jumbo cords. Shades range from neutral pale denim blues, camel, brown, rust and grey to rich yellow ochre, Prussian blue, emerald green and bold raspberry.
Metallic fabrics are also still going strong especially as its the party season but also for outerwear and in particular footwear. Logo letters are again a key trend as they were in Pitti Bimbo for next winter.
Ethical concerns are high here especially in the babywear and younger age group and its encouraging to see so many brands now with sustainable commitment and eco production.
There are many gorgeous collections at Playtime Paris with over 500 exhibitors and far too many to cover here so I am picking out some of my key pieces and I will be feeding out more on Instagram over the next week.
I also visited the pop up showrooms of Finger in The Nose and Tiny Cottons which were presented as part of a new launch for Kid Week, a smaller venue exhibition which had its first season. Both had great collections and presented also at an evening event on the Saturday night organised by Kid Week.
