Sustainable kidswear from new launch Chapter, a London startup who believe in small scale production and doing things right with a selection of quilted kids jackets just in time for the Autumn chills.
“Our jackets are unique and as individual as the little people we are making them for.
85% of textiles go into landfills each year. That’s enough to fill the Sydney harbour annually! So let’s not produce more.
Our goal at Chapter clothing is to use a circular approach to childrenswear, so we re-engineer and re-design reclaimed and vintage textiles into new pieces.
We partner with innovative thinkers, brands and manufacturers – across industries – to make sure we always challenge how we can do things better.
So from Andrea who makes our eco-friendly buttons, the Margate based creative agency startup that helped with our branding, to the 100% recyclable packaging all our jackets are shipped in. We are all responsible for creating a better product, that has a positive social and environmental impact.”
Chapter is founded by Natasha Thomas a fashion designer with over decades experience at brands like Burberry, Victoria Beckham and Erdem.
Along the way, she has learnt the art of design and manufacturing at a luxury level. As well as the fundamental issues with overproduction, and unsustainable choices often seen in the industry.
Two years ago Natasha started a family, and her daughter Thea would go on to inspire the ethos behind the brand;
“Prior to this point, I lived and breathed fashion and my career, often at the expense of other experiences. After having our beautiful daughter Thea, I had the natural opportunity to slow down, pause and reflect. It gave me a moment to think about what I wanted for the future, but also the world in which Thea will grow up in.
Thea is now 2 years old, and with the UK lockdown, it seemed like the perfect time to do something mad, and branch out on my own. To finally allow myself the work/life/family balance that I believe is so important. “
Each jacket is made from vintage quilts some already featuring loving repairs, so why stop there. When you buy a Chapter Jacket its meant to be an heirloom. So if your jacket gets a hole in it, or misses a button, just let us know, and we will ensure we help repair it for the next little generation.
Chapter are not adopting the normal calendar of a faster fashion approach, and will create drops called ‘Chapters’ that will be released, simply when they are ready.
In ‘Chapter 01’ there are only 60 pieces in total, which go live at 8pm UK time on Friday 4th of September (24 hrs early for anyone signed up to the mailing list) Its expected that they will sell out fast, and those wanting one will have to wait for Chapter 02.
Sustainable childrenswear focusing on a sustainability. Creating heirlooms to be lived in and loved. The retail price of each jacket is £120.00.
