Pitti Bimbo 87 report today with kids fashion trends SS19 news.
Pop Optical colour was the theme for this seasons Pitti Bimbo and it seemed an apt choice as one of the strong kids fashion trend themes would appear to be strong and vivid colour.
Not so much the rainbow shades from a couple of years ago but unusual combinations where colours like sky blue and mustard substitute for the more usual red, white and blue in stripes or prints and jungle bright greens, reds, yellow and oranges take over the khaki, lemon, sand spectrum.
So prevalent was the strong colour that even brands who are normally strictly monochrome took to red and royal blue shades to spice up the otherwise neutral offerings. Others chose a retro 1970’s palette with orange and browns mixed together.
The other strong trend to emerge was inspired by Latin America. Having just been to the Frida Kahlo exhibition currently on at the V&A Museum it was slightly strange to see mini me versions with floral headbands on the Pitti catwalks but it is a very fun uplifting summer look and encompasses all the hot red, orange and yellow shades in the collections for next summer.
Look out for lots of fringing too in beach cover ups, little dresses and simple white separates. The eco and ethical exhibitors are also growing with many more brands now choosing to work with organic or sustainable textiles and ethical manufacturing processes.
Blues are also having a moment from the softest pastel hues for tulle and floaty dresses to the brightest turquoise and poster paint colour shades.
Sportswear details are key, with many softer printed girls tops and dresses being finished with elastic rib striped cuffs and necklines or unisex track pant styles finished with go faster logo stripes down the sides.
Thursday night is party night in Florence and first off was a beautiful garden presentation by Monnalisa with flower head mannequins showcasing their signature floral prints and couture tulle girls styles.
After which DSquared2 celebrated their 5 years kidswear anniversary with the party of the week, a replica of an American High School prom in a suburban location of Florence, complete with classic American roadsters, suits and prom dresses for the kids, beer and margarita’s for the adults and a big reveal late into the night to a ribbon bedecked dance hall complete with classic Back to the Future 50’s prom band. It was astonishingly well done and one none of us will forget it in a hurry.
