Petit Tribe is a new kids designer brand founded by two partners with an Anglo/African background. Olatoun Jolaoso initiated the idea almost 4 years ago when pregnant, inspired by the Fulani Tribe which she saw near her in Northern Nigeria whose vibrant prints and patterns she admired.
Joining with the designer Joanne Jong whose expertise was in fashion houses across Europe they together created Petit Tribe. The collection launches in March 2015.
Africa is the base for their original prints and the collection is for both boys and girls from newborn to 12 years old. A Giraffe logo was chosen for the brand and this runs throughout the collection in prints and as a stand alone motif. Shapes and fabrics are of a quality and style more often seen in adult labels using sophisticated textiles such as crepe de chine, cotton elastane and soft viscose jersey and featuring jewelled collars and necklaces as well as baby accessories such as double face cashmere blankets and gift sets.
Olatoun has also created a Petit Tribe foundation to support the building of schools and fund an education program for young Nigerians who desperately need help in this area. 1% of sales will be contributed to this foundation.
