Kids fashion video and stills in a project by Italian photographer Federico Leone today titled ‘Bye Bye Colourful Summer’. The story of a bunch of kids playing in those boring afternoon at the end of summer with blankets, chairs or a bucket like if they were tools of superheros, dressed with colourful outfits in the suburbs of Barcelona City.
Its been said that video is the way forward for fashion promotion many times but it has been slow to take off, partly due to the complicated process of double shooting at the same time for stills and film. However on Instagram the short video clip is key and Instagram is the home of fashion these days!
This new project by Federico shows a very special and new idea with the creation of single short video loops that can be used on IG stories or IG feed (every video has a loop that last from 8″ up to 16″), but, once put together, they create a longer video that tells the complete story with a ‘new’ soundtrack with all music tracks sequentially combined.
The quality of the footage is so high that it also allows one to take gorgeous stills from the video with the quality of a SLR shoot as can be seen below.
Regarding the use of video Federico says “Nowadays branding is not only print anymore. The biggest problem for the clients is to spread the content you do for them as a photographer/director to any media. This means stills and video in many many many different formats, techniques and needs.
The abilities and the technical problems are different and doing video and stills at the same time is very challenging but not impossible. You have to give up something, and it’s important to inform the client about it, but I think this is a good example of what is possible to do.
Depending of what is the most important thing for the client (video or photos) you choose the best idea and technique.
I have to say that my aim is to separate the two things when it is possible, to do 100% quality in both, but not all the clients can afford several days of photoshoot”
The music is by Apparat who has made few tracks of his music available as a downloadable ‘Ableton live set’ giving the opportunity (of course for non commercial uses) to remix them at will. Below some of the stills created and the full length edit of the video, I will be posting shorter film clips on my Instagram page.
