Photographer Abi Campbell and Art Director and stylist Tracey Jacob got their heads together on this theme wondering how to do a boy’s story when they both loved girls clothes so much more, Abi explains their thought processes below;
“It’s a huge honour to be invited to shoot for the discerning L’Enfant Terrible, however, my heart sank a little when they told me the theme. Boys shot by female photographers. It’s not that I don’t like boys, I’ve got a 14 year old one of my own….its just that, I REALLY like girl clothes.
Art Director/ stylist Tracey Jacob agreed to collaborate and swiftly addressed my resistance by taking her art direction/ styling inspiration from Harris Reed. She’d been Instagram crushing on him for the longest time. I’d never heard of him…. now he’s my obsession and will probably become yours. Fresh out of Central Saint Martins, this ethereal young designer has the fashion world in a right old tizzy. Championing LGBTQIA rights he unapologetically owns his own graceful gender fluidity.
Reed’s first gig (before he even graduated) was dressing Harry Styles.
Reed’s glam rock, new romantic, Victorian dandyesque style is instantly recognisable. Vogue, The Sunday Times, GQ and other industry Goliath’s predict he will be the name on everyone’s lips this year and the attention is well deserved.
Reed is a modern ambassador for those who don’t fit into societies box of what’s ‘normal’ and he shares his message with humility, gratitude and grace.
Our editorial ‘Modern Romantic’ is a bow to Harris Reed and those challenging cisnormativity. In a world that’s more open minded than ever, there’s still a long way to go to eradicate all the pockets of ignorance that blight it. Everyone in this world has a right to be who they want to be without judgement. Thank you @harris_reed for paving the way for acceptance.
