CIFF Kids teenage style and the beanie hat for winter 2013 kids fashion

The CIFF Kids trade fair for children’s fashion in Copenhagen always has a group label show that is lively and styled using various props and labels from a mixed up group of contributors from the fair.

To preview the next fall / winter season this year they focused on a layered theme and unusually there were a lot of teenage models on the catwalk. Apart from the fact that they looked giant put next to the 6 year olds it was interesting to see how the styles were adapted for the older kids into a cooler grungy look.

As I was photographing I lost track of whose outfits were worn by which model but notable contributors included Numph Kids, Gro, Soft Gallery, Poppy Rose, Petit Nord, Aya Naya and Frankie and Liberty.

One item to note is the oversized knitted beanie hat which has been everywhere for the winter 2013 season.

Results of the 13th edition of Playtime Paris - A new record!

With more than 400 international brands presenting their Fall/Winter 2013/14 collections, this edition of Playtime Paris, which took place in January 26 – 28 at the Parc Floral, was the biggest one ever.

Indeed, in spite of the difficult economic context, Playtime attracted more visitors (+4,2% more than the January 2012 session and +19,7% more than July 2012) thereby becoming the children’s trade fair with the highest number of international buyers in the world (2821, or +6 points over January ‘12).

The crazy dream we had seven years ago of bringing together the most interesting players in the children’s and maternity universes under the same roof has been validated, and Playtime has become THE reference for brands as well as buyers.

Our approach, based on selective editing, also attracted more brands to this edition, particularly from the Decor/Design sector (+20% exhibitors) which was reinforced by the new PlayWithDesign section. Moreover, there was a significant rise in the number of shoe brands, a layette sec- tor that is always stronger in winter, and a greater presence of Nordic and British exhibitors.

This edition of Playtime welcomed PlayWithDesign, a unique exhibit of 10 leading designers who were asked to present a project based on the theme of «play» and specifically using foam as its material. www.playtimeparis.com/playwithdesign

Little Duckling fall / winter 2013 cool kids and baby designer fashion

A quickie post today as I will be rushing off to CIFF Kids for the trade shows but I absolutely had to show these so cute shots for the new baby styles from Little Duckling.

After wowing us all with her new little ball family set toy’s at Bubble London this week, designer Rosa also gained lots of publicity for her cool retro influenced knit styles.

Playtime Paris kids fashion fair trends for fall / winter 2013, the UK and Scandinavian exhibitors.

I was surprised to see so many Scandinavian exhibitors at Playtime Paris kids fashion fair last weekend, it seems the closure of CPH Kids fair has propelled them into the fair in search of new customers.

Some but not all will also be exhibiting at CIFF Kids the competitor trade fair in Copenhagen which started on Wednesday. There was a fair smattering of UK exhibitors too despite the clash with Bubble London. Some highlights from exhibitors of both countries below.

Bubble London highlights from the kids fashion trade fair for fall / winter 2013

In some ways I was more excited by the accessories and toys this season at Bubble London than by the kids clothes. With a few notable exceptions and new arrivals a lot of the offerings bore more than a passing resemblance to last winter.

As at Pitti Bimbo the trend for brocade as a party dress fabric is present here and also the green and mustard shades are strong. Bubble is also great for finding new quirky niche labels, a lot of companies begin here and then move to overseas markets and the little spaces in the top mezzanine galleries were full with interesting offers.

My favourite picks are below and I have concentrated on the labels and new ideas not seen elsewhere as I know many will cover the more popular names in the blog world. A lot of the more established labels were at Playtime and I will pop them into a separate report.

Also a large number of exhibitors are reporting an increasing problem with copying, one exhibitor at Playtime said her graphic print had been copied line for line with no attempt to alter at all. Exhibitors are understandably nervous about outside trade release of designs. This could be the current climate where designers are put under extreme pressure for multiple collections by commercial giants or could be that the easy access on the internet to visuals has resulted in lazy design.
