Start-rite has brightened up some of their classic children’s shoe styles with strong vibrant colours for spring 2013.

This sweet shoot photographed by Katrina Tang showcases some of the new styles and colourways, not all the styles were bought by the individual shops in the UK but they are also available from overseas stockists including web stores.

I worked with Katrina on the production and art direction for the shoot with stylist Kate Van der Hage and we had a great day at the wonderful stately home location Wrest Park just outside Luton which the kids adored running round in.

Children’s shoes are tricky to get right. Mums want to know that the fit is good and the shoes will last but at the same time want some fashion elements too.

I have always loved the classic Start-rite export collection more than their main ranges available in the UK and I am pleased that the export range is now sold here. Talk about classics, these are kids shoes from 40 years ago but, and this is the important thing, they still look brilliant.

However there are new directions at Start-rite now and one of them is the Jubilee cool Union flag shoe, strong and graphic and still hardwearing, another is the funkier girls section Angry Angels which seems to be taking off and a new selection of ankle boots for the winter season.
