Next summer children’s fashion actually looks a lot like this summer but brighter, bolder, more neon and more romantic too, if those can ever be said to go together.

Some of the highlights from the exhibition stands at Pitti Bimbo below. Sorry to be brief but I am now backtracking in time and viewing all the goodies for Christmas and they are long days!

Pitti Bimbo summer 2013 previews for kids designer fashions shown in Florence, Italy.

So a couple of sneak previews for you all today from Young Versace who showed last night in a Palazzo on the river with a tableau of mannequins, Simonetta who held a reception at the famed Florentine store Luisa Via Roma and from Elsy who banned photography at their catwalk presentation, a fairly pointless task as many people just raise a sneaky phone up at intervals and at the finale anyway.

When the likes of Prada and Marc Jacobs are live streaming from the catwalk it seems a little irrelevant to be so precious over a children’s collection. However, they always have some nice sketches so I have posted them below.

Young Versace have embraced both pastels and vibrant colour in their collection and also a quick look at Il Gufo who are showing on the catwalk today.

Always popular but there are some great variations this summer, striped trends in children’s fashion.

Everywhere I look there are stripes coming into the stores now, here is a round up of some of the best examples of the way designers are refiguring stripes in kids fashion, mixing widths, colours, adding shapes and distorting them from Simonetta, Kidscase, Mini Boden and others.

Its so cute seeing the models get prepped backstage before the catwalk shows at Pitti Bimbo. A surprising amount of make up and hair prep happens, even the boys get some concealer and make up base to even their skin, no wonder the kids on the catwalk always look so great.

Clothes are bagged with all accessories with large name tags and the kids are all so patient for the 2 hour process of getting them ready.

I make it a habit now to pop into one or two shows backstage for some sneak portraits and a close up look at catwalk items, here are some portraits and general mayhem from the Simonetta and Guess Kids summer 2012 shows.

Children’s footwear trends for winter 2012, a roundup from the trade shows

Having seen an extensive selection of the trade shows this year I have a pretty good view of the forthcoming trends for kids footwear for the 2012 winter season.

In Italy shearling rules as nearly all the catwalk shows featured variations on the classic Ugg style boot with different colourways and permutations of studding, lacing, buckling and crystal embellishment. Fur turn back trims and metallic quilted leathers were also strong.

The pump still goes from strength to strength as a girls popular choice for day and party shoes with new variations come from the new designer at Angulus who added a sweet furry bow, Paul Smith who added a signature stripe fine bow and many brands showed glitter dance variations.

For boys there are many options on the laced baseball boot with leather contrast trims, flouro contrast laces, two tone spat style colourways plus a restrained trainer syle and chunky black biker boots.

Metallics are still key for leather finishes and shiny patents with the luxe look of a high end sports car are popular with top brands in deep reds and vibrant blue, orange and green.
