Midcentury Modern last weekend, maybe I am falling out of love with this?

I ventured out to the Midcentury Modern fair at Dulwich last weekend on a very foggy day. Maybe it was the weather but I suddenly felt it all seemed a little dull, too much brown everywhere.

I have decided it was probably just the proximity of so much classic midcentury design all crammed in together, I think the individual pieces are beautiful still but need to be mixed in a modern setting, put against the dark brick walls and wood floors of the interior of Dulwich College and without the strong sunlight coming in it was all a little too much. The advantage of this is to see a huge range in a one stop shop of the midcentury design classics.

There was not much kids design on display with the exception of Molly Meg who had a cheery stall there, its a shame that the kids version has ended.

Quite a few visitors were carrying small goods away with them, notable stalls included in the new goods section upstairs were Thorsten Van Elten with small finds from his Theo website and Donna Wilson’s cushions, By Nord with a simple Christmas tree and their photo printed cushions, new name to me Eleonor Pritchard with her stunning wool blanket range and Mini Moderns with a great selection of their wallpapers and crockery.

Bubble London June 2010 children’s fashion part 3 for summer 2011

There was so much here to show but today I will point out some of the quirkier styles and bold colour options.

The Molly Meg chairs at the main entrance to Bubble always have me envious and although there isn’t much in the way of accessories and interior bits at the fair I think it would be a good place to try and develop this further.

There seemed a good response to the ethical brands at the fair too, both Green Baby and Frugi had very busy stands, both well decorated too but far too busy to photograph anything. I will do an ethical post later in the year.

Bubble London previews summer 2011 for children’s fashion Part 1

Wow, so much too choose from here this time around at Bubble London

However there are some trends so strong they cannot be ignored. Stripes are just everywhere, as are nautical colours and touches whether in classic sailor collar mode or in contrast bindings or just in the colour combinations of red,white and blue.

Undoubtably in a hard climate for selling a proven style can be relied upon to do the business and while nautical may be a corny cliche some of the new variations seen here show that there is still life in that trend yet.

In other posts I will feature some of the softer trends but today is all about the red,white and blue.

Bubble London for winter 2010 previews boy’s fashion

Boy’s fashion is never as widely represented as girls as there is less leeway for styling. Quite a lot of brands run two ranges that were shown at Bubble such as Mini a Ture, Joules, Mexx and No Added Sugar but it is much more likely you will find a dedicated girls brand than one for boys.

Boyswear tends to swing between the supersmart event dressing with tailored jackets, shirts and fine knit slipovers or casual streetwear with printed T-shirts, leather or padded jackets and jeans with special finishes. More interesting are the quirky vintage influenced labels who have 50′s style prints and retro tweed or knitted jackets.

Below is a selection shown for next winter at Bubble London;
