Happy Halloween and thinking of those in the Eastern USA.

I have just come back from being away so this is just a quick post for all those stuck on the Eastern seaboard of the USA to say thinking of you and what a shame for the kids and Halloween this year.

Here are a couple of spooky pumpkins I spotted around, I am guessing most of the NYC ones got washed away!

A cute brand from Australia for kids fashion with an ethical stance – Udder

Udder began as so do many kidswear brands when the owner and designer Fliss Dodd had her first child.

As an artist and designer she quickly despaired of the usual plastic offerings and started her own brand Udder making toys, then clothes and now accessories and objects for the home. I love the feel of the photography here and note the cape for Halloween nights,.

Confusingly this collection is titled summer 12/13 but that’s Australian summer which is our winter, however these items will be great when the Northern Hemisphere summer rolls round again. The collections are ethically made in Bali using traditional printing techniques, recycled fabrics and hand printing.

Cute bow ties for kids by Mason F for Bonpoint, Halloween dress up and Christmas dolls too.

From the exclusive Mason F, the first luxury brand from France founded in 2011 that is devoted to ties, cravats and bow ties comes this exclusive set for children created for Bonpoint.

There are 5 ties, 5 bow ties and a boxed set of 3 bow ties and as you can imagine these exclusive items are not cheap with ties at £98 each and bow ties at £108. The only compensation is that a tie will last a good many years longer than the shirt it is worn with as growth won’t be quite the same issue and what could be an easier item to hand me down!

For Xmas there is also so much more – a new exclusive doll collection and also for Halloween some great dress up outfits with brilliant masks and a beautiful velvet cloak from this super chic French store.

Halloween New York style, gruesome homes and giant pumpkins

October is the perfect time to be in NYC, I escaped the sudden snowstorm of the past weekend just by a few hours so saw the city at its best with comfortable temperatures and getting ready for Halloween.

From gruesome decorations on the Upper East side to gingerbread houses in Grand Central Station there were bits of Halloween popping up all over Manhatten.

Not as much individual house decoration as I had expected, I suspect Manhattanites are too cool for that, mostly subtle uncut pumpkins popped in amongst other foliage but those that did, did it in spooktacular style!

Kigu animal suits from Japan at Selfridges, what a hoot for Halloween

The kids costume range of animal playsuits by Japanese specialists Kigu is now at Selfridges and they look brilliant. Almost like Manga animation characters.  The suits will fit from 18 months – 12 yrs but Kigu actually make adult sizes too and the pictures on their web site are a hoot. Seems to be a favourite dress up item at pop festivals!

Sheltered as I am and not venturing to festivals these days I hadn’t realised! The suits are well made and at £39 each not cheap but should last more than one or two outings at least.

Smudgetikka will be taking a half term break next week but will be back as normal on Nov 1st, see you then.
