Children are featuring in high fashion shoots more than ever, May issue of French Vogue is the most recent

Hot on the heels of the April USA edition of Vogue featuring a Summer of Love family grouping lensed by Bruce Weber is this editorial from French Vogue featuring Joan Smalls.

Kids it seems are popping up in mainstream adult editorials a lot now. Whether this is down to an increasing number of fashion editors having their own offspring or an increasing amount of designer labels for the children to wear I don’t know but its good to see. Bruce Weber has of course often used kids in his shoots and used to lens for Vogue Bambini on a regular basis but Terry Richardson!

Vogue have alway’s periodically featured kids in fashion pages but this seems to be increasing, last month I featured Christophe Kutner’s family story from Spanish and Brazilian Vogue too.

Little Marc Jacobs, a strong start to the collaboration with CWF for the kids designer fashion label

There were some very cute looks especially in the baby sizes from Little Marc Jacobs for next fall/winter’s children’s fashion from this label.

It is the first season’s collaboration with the new licensee CWF who also handle Chloe, Boss and Burberry so they are right at the top of brand name designer collaborations in the children’s fashion world and know the direction the line should be taking.

Key looks included the faux fur belted gilet, the heart print baby dress and coat, the faux fur deep navy duffle coat and boy’s funky parka jackets and tri-coloured knitwear.

There is also a fabulous mini me children’s laser cut leather petal dress direct from the adult range.

Miss Grant, luxe Italian designer kids fashion previews winter 2012

One of the crossover brands from Italy between the old family companies and the newer funkier styles in the children’s fashion world is Miss Grant.

They always have a fashion show and this year made a big deal out of only allowing their own credited photographers to have cameras in the show presentation, although I spotted plenty of sneaky camera phones being used, especially at the finale for a record of all that was onstage.

Its a shame as its one of the catwalk presentations I love to photograph but I have a limited selection here I can show you which includes Grant Garcon, their new boys line too. In the age of live screening for a lot of fashion’s top designer names in womenswear it does seem a little out of date to be banning photographers from a kids fashion show.

Back to rain in the UK, a Barbour is just the thing for Kids fashion rainwear, back in fashion for the city set.

If there’s one thing you need in England when it rains its a good waxed Barbour jacket, newly popular amongst the masses this has been a brand for the country set for generations, now with a full kids collection too it has gained a new popularity in the country and both in the city and on the football terraces!

A sharpening up of the image and an addition in the ranges to the iconic classics have managed to reinvent the classic waxed jacket and with a Paul Smith collaboration for the coming winter men’s collection and Alice Temperley tackling the women’s styles this is just set to get stronger.

Oliver + S paper sewing patterns for children’s clothes now at Liberty store in the UK.

Another great find at Liberty for creative parents who wander up to the fabrics floor are these wonderful paper patterns for kids from Oliver + S , a great selection of pretty cotton fabrics and some interesting sewing books too.

Only available usually in New York its great to see these in London and I just love the retro style covers. There is a whole counter devoted to kids sewing and style with additional items from the Knitlympics book with knitted star athletes and some quirky pretty peg dolls too.
