A massive hit of colour for winter 2012 from Sonia Rykiel Enfant children’s fashion collection

Echoing many of the trends seem this week at the latter part of London Fashion Week is the winter 2012 kids collection by Sonia Rykiel Enfant and perhaps an indication of what might be coming from Paris too in the way of strong colour.

Still with the black echoes and the signature stripes of the Rykiel line this is however one of the brightest winter collections I have ever seen.

Even boys get in on the fun with a bright multicoloured sweater too.

My Little Dress Up, a cute story for their beginning, a second season next winter for this kids fashion brand

My Little Dress Up exists because the designers once made a dress for a little girl they knew in memory of the special party dresses that had been given when they were young. The little girl Lola became the company model and now this children’s fashion label is showing its second season for winter 2012 kidswear.

Based on a nearly couture concept with high quality fabrics and excellent make from a high end Atelier, the label which is based in the Netherlands is growing slowly with a range of special party and event items for 2-10 years old girls and boys.

Here is their first summer collection and some previews from winter 2012 which they exhibited for the first time at Kleine Fabriek in January as well.

Teeny Tini, cute handmade crochet animals and rugs with a retro feeling for kids play.

Teeny Tini made by JK Lange started as a label for children’s clothing made from random lengths of knitted and crochet threads but when I saw it at Playtime Paris this season there seems to have been an evolution into play rugs and toys which suit her hand made and vintage look ethic perfectly.

I love the big face Gandalph rug, such a personality and the loopy knit hedgehogs and stuffed quirky animals have a genuine ‘just picked it up at the flea market feel’ without the hours of searching it would take to find something this perfectly retro.

I think its a great new direction and will watch to see what further products issue from this line.

Franky Grow – Dotty kids fashion from Tokyo for fall / winter 2012

I adore Franky Grow for its pure Japanese quirkiness and huge sense of fun, for children’s clothes this range just looks such a scream to wear.

Having just seen the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Tate Modern I am a bit dot crazy this week anyway and dots seem to always be a big feature of the Franky Grow collection.

Here is a preview of the winter styles to come and a little portrait of the very shy designer Chizuko Takai at Playtime Paris.

The Yayoi Kusama exhibition runs at the Tate Modern from 9th February to 5th June and I would recommend a visit to see the breadth of her work. The Infinity Mirrored room like the one below is the last room before the exit. Do queue for this even if it is a bit of a wait, its a mind immersion in spots that feels like outer space.

CIFF KIds Copenhagen previews for children’s fashion winter 2012

The two stand out exhibitors here at CIFF KIds were Creme de la Creme a la Edgar whose recently closed store has now evolved into an online business and who recreated room sets for the entrance to the fair and Pale Cloud who have a stunning new jewellery line with bracelets and necklaces in a gold and cord mix tucked into soft pale leather pouches.

The items that marked out other collections were often the knits, whether in baby alpaca, Nordic patterns or a modern twist on the ski sweater which also appeared produced as leggings. It was often these that caught the eye.

A lot of the exhibitors here also have an older teen offering which by default seems to contain a lot of denim and layered cotton T-shirts and hooded sweats. Some of these had good strong graphics but needed a better visual presentation to draw you in.

Name it succeeded well in this with a presentation on different levels showing the key trends for the collection.
