Fair Isle knitwear from the Fair Isle itself, I am loving these photographs.

Ok so its not kids fashion as such but we all know that the Fair Isle patterns are an inspiration for hundreds of kids designers every year. Well here are the originals.

Mati Ventrillon at the Fair Isle knitwear company is living as a crofter and craft designer on Fair Isle and can be commissioned to design a made to measure sweater for you and your family which is made in the in the authentic manner in Shetland wool and with original patterns. She will probably design a children’s size too if you wish quite happily.

These photos were taken by another island stalwart, the photographer Dave Wheeler and I love their authentic rugged quality and the contrast between the patterned sweaters and the granite rocks around. Dave is not only the island’s resident photographer but also a meteorologist, crofter, Airport Manager, IT Instructor (local primary school), and the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. He has been photographing the traditional lifestyle since the 1950′s so has an incredible record of life on the island.
